Play where?

Have you ever seen the playground and yard space by the portables when kids are out for recess? It's packed and overwhelming just to look at it, let alone be 3-4’ tall and trying to navigate it.

Many of us would also be happy to join in as chaperones for Forest Fridays. This is Maine after all! If our kids can't spend some time exploring during a 7 hour school day, what are we doing?

Did you know that the proposed "new school" would be on 76 acres of land that backs up to Knight’s Pond and Rhines Forest and would act as a corridor between the two for the entire town to enjoy? It will also be used to create more sports fields, as needed.

Kids in preschool, kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade would spend their early years playing, exploring and learning outside.

The draw of so many of our State's private schools is how much time they spend outside in nature, but why should parents have to pay $20,000-$30,000 a year for kids to spend more time outside during school hours? This is Maine! We can do this.🌲

Did you know that time outside in nature helps kids to regulate their nervous system, lowers stress and helps them focus when they get back to their classroom?

UPDATE: Because an additional 12 more modular classrooms is needed, there is a budget proposal to build a new MIW playground in July/ August of 2023 in the field across from what is now known as Tuttle Town. There is a teacher committee to help design the playground.
